Needs updates

We traveled to three of the Hawaiian islands - buying two of the books in this series - and this one was probably due for an update. It's not terribly inaccurate but misleading in parts, especially the driving directions. We took the "best of" advice and were not disappointed at all with the dive company for our night manta dive and loved the lu'au we went to. Some of the driving directions and recommendations were not quite accurate. For example, the description of Saddle Back road was completely off. The book warned that you'd have to be careful driving it in general and crazy to drive it at night. We did both. And it was actually gorgeous...but it seems the road is being repaved and widened so whatever dangers there were before seem to not be the case anymore. Another example was the stretch of dirt road leading to a green beach on the southern tip of the island. Very trecherous yet no warning in the book. I'd say buy the book - most of the tourists use it (so don't be surprised if some of the "gems" in the book are packed) - but know that some of the guidance could be off. I also found the organization of this book tricky to navigate but that could be a personal preference.

If you are going to any of the Hawaiian Islands, make sure you take the appropirate Guidebook from Doughty for the best possible trip! He is truthful and humorous about all adventures.
